Herd comes from the Meyer family behind Advanced Car Hire.
For more than two decades, our family has helped travelers choose vehicles, understand gravel roads and see Namibia on their own terms. Herd began with a pattern we kept hearing: people wanted the freedom of a self-drive, but not six months of planning, a lonely road or the feeling that every problem was theirs alone.
So we built the trip between those choices.
A guide leads the route. A chef cooks most nights. The group brings company and backup. You keep your own 4x4 and the wheel - the day still belongs to you.
THE FARM
Most of what you eat on a Herd convoy comes from Zania, the Kalahari farm our family has worked for years. It is where the trip ends.
THE FLEET
Two decades running vehicles across Namibia’s roads means we know exactly what a truck needs to survive them, and exactly what a guest needs to enjoy them.
THE COMMUNITY
Namibia is not a backdrop for us. It’s where we’re from, and every convoy that runs puts something back into the places it passes through.
A few years ago, a group of friends flew into Windhoek with ten days and a rough idea of where to go. Straight from the airport to the family's rental yard to collect the trucks, and the first night wasn't a hotel - it was dinner around a real table in a family home.
From there it was campsites under open sky, waterholes thick with animals in the early light, seafood eaten with sand still on our feet after a morning at Sandwich Harbour, and the dunes at Sossusvlei turning red as the sun came up. Ten days, and a trip nobody in that group has stopped talking about since.
That trip became Herd. Built on a memory, not a concept - because the best trips were never really about the destination.
